Talk:Product Development

On this page we gradually develop the answers to questions in the headings). The discussion about the answers to the questions takes place here. As soon as any preliminary answer to these questions is available, it can be placed in the article (see tab above). In this way, we can gradually build a picture about how the product development process should look like. The focus here is on development of the pilot products for the La Paz region in Bolivia.

[edit] Product Development Issues

[edit] What is a product?

What exactly do we call a product? See for product types, according to levels of innovation and change, levels of assistance, and levels of complexity Microjustice Products.

[edit] What are likely to be the modules of the product?

A product may consist of different modules, parts of a product that can be used in many different products. How to deal with this? See also Microjustice-BOP Lab Master Thesis Project.

[edit] What is the physical carrier of the product (text, other)?

Until now, we have assumed that products will be defined by texts on a website, like the products that are now available on Microjustice Bolivia. Is this the way? What could be alternatives?

Could we expand the range by including icons and perhaps audio? How is the literacy rate within oru target group? - JHV

[edit] How to generalize?

Products will be developed locally, for a region or a country. But true economies of scale become possible if products can be used across regions and countries, if necessary in a slightly modified way. How can this generalization process take place?

  • For the generalization process, the following may work. For each product, we could develop a bottom up version, based on the local needs. For instance: Birth Certificates Self Help La Paz. Next to this a Master Birth Certificates Self Help could be developed, which would be a generalized procedure for obtainig birth certificates, in a way that would generally work in most countries. This Master version could be helpful for developing products in other countries. The local product could then be developed on a dedicated page on this wiki. The Master on another closely linked page, so that local product and Master can develop jointly, hopefully increasing quality for both --Barendre 16:09, 3 February 2008 (UTC).

[edit] How to integrate expertise and people?

Product development is to be a joined effort. So how to join forces and integrate expertise from the following groups?

[edit] The Bolivia product development team?

The Bolivia product development team has developed first versions of many products already. They will usually take the lead, so that product development takes place bottom up, as close as possible to the clients, see also MJ Product Development Guidelines.

[edit] Expertise regarding access to justice and dispute resolution system design?

At the same time experts on access to justice and dispute resolution system design can help. They may know how to develop more efficient products and products that are more likely to work between people, because experiences in other countries show this or because well-researched psychological processes make this more likely.

[edit] Expertise from the universities in the region?

This has to be integrated as well. Which kind of expertise do we need?

[edit] Integration with development of web-interface?

Another necessary link is to the guys that develop the website interface, both in Bolivia (see the preliminary version on Microjustice Bolivia) and in the MicrojusticeNormsandProcesses.com project.

[edit] Integration with Base of the Pyramid Process?

Moreover, the product development will be guided by the Base of the Pyramid Protocol. This protocol ensures a truly bottom up process, guided by the client needs and their capabilities. How to integrate the methods this protocol in our process of product development? And how to bring expertise from BOP specialists to the floor in Bolivia?

[edit] The process of product development

[edit] Which versions will be developed?

Product development will go in versions. How do we distinguish versions? What is a beta version; what a 1.0 version?

[edit] Version 0.5

The Bolivia team has developed initial versions of the products that are present on the website (as of February 6, 2008). This was done on the basis of a questionaire, that was developed at Tilburg University. This questionaire has been adjusted to the La Paz situation, and has been translated in Spanish. I propose to call this version 0.5 --Barendre 16:42, 6 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Version 0.7 (Beta Version)

In the project proposal that we will present to EAF, we promise a Beta Version: a version that does not yet fully meet the product requirements. But it is a version that will be tested, with a result that shows that it is a reasonable expectation that a the continued product development process will result in a product that fully meets the Product Requirements. For the development of this version, the BOP Protocol will actually be followed, would be my proposal--Barendre 16:42, 6 February 2008 (UTC).

[edit] Version 1.0

This would be the version that would be the first one that actually meets the product requirements. Before it could be called a version 1.0, it should be tested to see whether it meets the product requirements.

[edit] What are the steps in product development?

What will be the phases that we will distinguish?

[edit] Investigation Phase

[edit] Investigation for Version 0.5

For the Version 0.5 products, the investigation has followed the questionnaire.

[edit] What will be the requirements?

Some requirements are already presented on Microjustice Products.

[edit] How will the testing take place?

[edit] How could an integrated process for product development look like?

We have developed some ideas for the process to develop two product, just to get an idea how to do this.

[edit] For a dispute resolution procedure?
